What you need to know

There is a lot to think about when you decide that you want to set up your online store. There’s no need to get overwhelmed if you take it one step at a time.

Its not as complicated as you may think…

To set up an eCommerce site, you’ll need:

  • a place to put your company
  • a place to put your products
  • a way to collect payments

A place to put you company

This is known as a web hosting site or internet service provider (ISP). Think of them as a PO Box for the internet. People want to find your site, they type in your address (www.MyCompany.com) and your site is delivered to their browser.

A place to put your products

This is called a shopping cart. There are hundreds of shopping carts to choose from but many of them are old, not taking advantage of the latest methods to display your products and make shopping fun & easy. Some of the newest entries into eCommerce are Interspire and Magento. Both are good products that are easily customized to present the look and feel you’d like to present to your customers. Once we define your requirements, we’ll evaluate which shopping cart best fits your needs.

A way to collect payments

Collecting payments appears complicated but remember, it was designed by the banking industry. It is not really that bad but there are several steps involved in collecting payments. We’ll guide and be with you through the process.

There are security related pieces you’ll need including PCI compliance and an SSL certificate. We’ll explain what these are and have you setup and compliant in a few days.

There are other payment and cart possibilities including Yahoo and Paypal. We can help there too but keep in mind that they tend to be more expensive options, especially if you have a high volume store.

Feelings of Abandonment

No. We are not done until you are completely trained on how to maintain the site. We are with you after the store is opened to answer questions, make changes and evaluate how the store is operating. If you’d prefer, we will maintain your store for you so can focus on the other aspects of your business.
